Andrew,

What are the issues with the DML AA weapons?

I heard they were at least better than most kit representations, and was planning on picking up a set.

Joe, you're right that they're better than most kit weapons, FAR better molded and detailed, especially when you're talking about Eastern European kits of Soviet fighters. It's really a matter of SHAPE rather than molding quality. The forward half of the AA-2 Atolls, for example, put me off them completely with a totally inaccurate appearance. And the AA-8 Aphids, if I recall, have too wide a body diameter, with the large rear fins being the wrong shape, needing either replacing or grafting sections of plastic sheet onto them to correct. And more's the pity since those would be the most-needed missiles out of the whole set.

The question is: where can you find this ICM set? If its any good...

Andrew may be right about Dragon AA set, as I have some reservations on their Air-to-Ground set. They ARE very nicely moulded, but I can see some shape problems in certain areas. And the fact that there are decals for only one missile of each type, while its pair is left without any, really ****** me off...

A good and useful kit anyway. Don't get me wrong.

The BEST range of Soviet/Russian weapons are the resin ones from Prop & Jet.

I have a review of some of them at :- http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/models...pj_weapons.html

Linden Hill sells them :- http://66.226.87.135/propandjet.htm

The only problem is their availability. They are amazingly accurate, but being limited-run, they rely on the production output on just one guy - who is now ill IIRC.

By the way, does the ICM kit have any decals?

Is this the MiG-21 kit you refer to?

Ken is right, Prop & Jet sets are wonderful, however they mostly make air-to-surface weapons (apart from the R-77)

Getting good air to air weapons for current or older russian/soviet planes is another story...

Avoid the ICM set. Most missiles are either too small or grossly oversize and the level of detail isn't the best (assuming the set is the same, I've seen they sell it with a different box now, dunno if they changed anything in the molds).

The Dragon is so-so: the AA-11 are too long (but they can be converterd in something that looks good), while the AA-10 (not bad after all) have too small front fins.

The best way to get 1/72 missiles for Migs and Sukhois for now is using (modified) AA-11s from the Dragon set and AA-10s from the Revell/Hasegawa Su-27 (however the fins need to be thinned down).

My 2 cents, hoping that P&J also adds these air to air missiles to the inventory.

Stream armament set content:
1. part of Su-15TM sprue with two PTB-600, two missiles R-98, two R-60M, two launch rails APU-62 for R-60
2. Two missiles Kh-29T with two APU-58 launch stations
3. Two missiles Kh-29L with two APU-58 launch stations
4. Four different missiles Kh-25 series (Kh-25ML, Kh-25MP, Kh-25MT, Kh-25MR) and four launch rails APU-68UM

Review on russian

VES made more armament, but Stream not include all in set.

I have that set too, and while the missiles (AND respective rails) compare very well to available drawings, you must remember that it's a short-run, so this means it needs quite a lot of cleaning.

IMHO the P&J sets are for this reason far better (even if not so cheap).

Is this set available anywhere, Yuri or Kotey?

And at what price?

Seems that you could make something out of it.

I think there would be a need for a list of Soviet/Russian aircraft weapon sets available at the moment in 1/72 - or in other scales as well!

Anyone?

I now know the Streem, P&J, ICM and the OOP Dragon sets, from which I own the ATG set (set nr.2) Or was it all?
