Hey guys im a newbie here and need some help. Im helping a friend with an F-14D build. It will either be the F-14D residing in south florida (serial number 164342/AJ-100) or a VF-101 bird (specifically 163414/AD-163) did these two have the standard fishbowl style TID in the rios pit or that new PTID display?

If your F-14D is to be depicted as a bird after the 2002 timeframe, then the answer is it has the square PTID in the rear cockpit. In the year or two prior to 2002, it was kind of hit and miss depending on the squadron. F-14A's and B's got the PTID first, and the F-14D got the PTID when A and B squadrons started transitioning to the SH.

Thus, 164342 had the square display on its last cruise and several years before. 164314 would have had it if what you were looking to do was one of the more recent schemes.

Thanks nick. And by most recent scheme for 163414 you mean the cat with the high vis paint and sharks mouth on the nose that appeared at NAS oceana in 2004-2005 right? :)

163414 in '04/05 would have the square display as well. Have fun with your build and please don't be shy if you have more questions!

I also take it that 164342 from VF-31 was ROVER equipped since it was part of the last cruise? Could ROVER equipped tomcats still carry the AIM-54 as well?

AIM-54 was long gone by the time the last cruise happened.

All the non-training ordnance we carried under the belly on that cruise were the GBU-12 and GBU-38. GBU-38 was unique to VF-31 and VF-213 for that last cruise only.

Did you guys also have the ROVER antenna on 164342 or was rover only equipped onboard the F-14D® variants? Also thanks for your help :). I might end up getting on this joint project with my buddy when work dies down a bit.

All 22 Tomcats received the ROVER mod at the beginning of the final deployment, to include 164342. Prior to the end of the cruise, the equipment to include the antenna was removed permanently.

Hey mr kessel and AT-1mike. It turns out that i got the wrong model. It's an A model rather then a D :(. I love the A though and want to do an early high viz VF-84 bird with TCS. Can you tell me what timeframe the TCS was added and if the tomcat kept its large twin panel Gun purge vents rather then the later NACA vents.

The early hi-vis VF-84 markings (gull gray/white and overall gull gray) would have had the standard two grill gun gas vents. The TCS is a different matter. If you're doing gull gray over white, then it would have the small ALQ-100 pod under the nose, which is included in the Revell kit. If it's overall gull gray, it could be either the ALQ-100 or the TCS. If you end up needing the TCS, Steel Beach Accessories has a resin pod. So, from your post, you want the TCS, so you're probably looking at mid-late 80's. VF-32 had their shoot-down in January of '89, and they had the TCS pod, so it would have been introduced to the fleet a sometime before that. The best thing to do is to look through pictures of VF-84 and find a hi-vis scheme with the TCS pod on it.

Edit: I just checked the MATS F-14 website and there are a couple of hi-vis overall gull gray schemes that have the TCS.

Well there are a couple of specimens id love to do since they have the TCS and early large grill panels for the gun vents. Its a VF-84 bird (162702) or VF-111 (162594). Also when ecm pimples added (bumps)? And if timeframe matters it will be from 1988-1991. And i assume ill need the stregthening plates but not the GPS dome for thr 88-91 timeframe.
