Hi all,

I have been using Solvaset from Walthers as a decal setting solution. The decals are applied on the model over a thin coat of future, then I use the Solvaset to help them settle down and apply properly. For the most part I have no problem, but on a recent model I am working on - Academy Mig-29AS with the digital camo decals - I guess I used too much Solvaset in places and now there is some white staining left on the model where the Solvaset liquid dripped and pooled as the decals dried.

I have tried using a damp cloth to remove the stain, but this is not really effective. Have others had this problem? What can I use to remove these stains?

Thanks for helping.

Kevin

I have had that happen too. I usually just give it another "light" coat of solvaset & it dissapears!

I've experienced the same problem. Another coat of future will make the milky white stain disappear.

Many thanks... I am glad to report a top coat of future removed the offending stains. Thanks for the tips!

Solvaset is also very powerful. I just ruined a set of decals last week with it. Stupid. Better to stick with the Micro Set/Sol combo for all but the toughest decals.

When using Solvset you really need to dilute it a bit, it's a very hot solvent, I just dip my brush in water then the solveset.

I really like Solvaset. I use the Micro System, but seem to go back to Solvaset. I guess it's because it was the first decal solvent I ever used. Sorry, I have digressed. I also use Solvaset over Future. I put the Solvaset on the decal and then just slightly over the edge, onto the model, so it softens up the clear edges and fuses them onto the model. If I have the staining effect, I clean the area with water to make sure that the "rusty" looking stain isn't just dried Solvaset. It not, I do what you did and put a little bit of Future over the stained area and that fixes it.
