I believe this may have been a n aftermarket decal put out by Monogram Pro Modeler at the time. If anyone who has them, can scan the instructions and email them to me, it would be greatly appreciated. I am missing mine.I guess I could do the layout from pictures if needbe but anny help that I could get would be very welcome.

Good luck.

Hay Don; Yes I did look at that website before I posted. I don't think that those decals actually came with any kit, I think they were sold extra.

I remember you noting that they were aftermarket decals, but thought it may be worth a look anyhow. Do you need those specific decals or are you just looking to do a 57th FG aircraft? I may have something if the latter is the case.

I have the decals, just don't have the instructions for them. I build almost exclusively models that I can put MARINES on or some sort of Czech insignia but I wanted to build a P-51 since I bought 6 ICM kits for real cheep. I was going to build one as a "what if" and put a R-2600 or R-2800 or even a R3350 on the nose. Just to screw around. I think that a R-2600 would be realistic because I could put a realistic prop on it. But a 2800 with a paddle blade prop like the PV-1/2 had is also doable. I think it would be kind of silly looking. Build it as a 51B and add the dorsal spine with maybe a taller tail to make it a bit more feasible. make some folding wings and it will be right on. BUT ----- I did want to build a real one with real markings also. I will build build a British one with a Malcolm Hood and a US one with the birdcage. I was actually hoping to do a "Glamorous Glen" but there are no decals available.

This is the only P-51B on the sheets I've got, Sweet Helen (G4*O) lettering is White.

You're probably better off starting with a T-28 kit if you want a Radial Mustang. The T-28 is little more than a 2-seat R1820 powered Mustang with Tricycle gear anyways. Convert it to a single-seater, use an R2800 or R3350 up front with the cowl from a Corsair, Bearcat or Skyraider and maybe stretch the tail to accomodate the bigger engine and you'd have one neat bird.

I was thinking about useing the T-28 and have had both the t-28 and P-51 laid out to compair and There would be way too much diference for me. I will stick with the P-51B for the project. I don't want to do a D stile spine but a B with the Malcomb hood. I thought about a bit last night and have figured on maiting a B-25 cowling and partial nacell to the front of the 51. I also want to keep it a tail draffer to be able to better incorporate a tail hook. I plan on designating it a F1J-2.

This is what this forum is all about and worth coming back for. People like you Rick. some of these threads get a bit out of hand and never accomplish anyting. You made this thread worth the post. hopefully I will be able to return the favor at some point. If you notice the long list in my signature, it will be some time before I get to the P-51 or my fictisious F1J-2. I would like to place priority on five projects; the Monogram Skyraider, Hobbycraft F8F-2, Scratchbuilt Mercury Redstone (1/48), and Scratchbuilt Geminy Titan (1/48), HiPM MiG-19. I shure would love to finish something soon to be able to show.

Thanks Otto.
You are correct on the "some of these threads get a bit out of hand" comment but it takes all kinds I guess.
Comment on the 1/144 SU-22 helped because I was thinking of getting one but I think I can wait for a better one.

I know, I started a DML one which I think is about the best available and it Sucks. I will wait untill "Attack Models" from the Czech Republic Produces one. If you haven't seen their kits you should give them a try. I have a bunch of them and they are the best. They have the Su-7 series, MiG-21 eries MiG-15,17,19 and bunch of others. I am also looking forward to a Su-22M-4 and the announced L-29. I can send you some pictures of my Su-22 which was OK as far as the way it was turning out but the fuse outline is lousey. I did a ton of work on the wing to thin out the center section and it at least made the wing better but the fuse is beond help unless you want to re-carve the complete front from wing mid-section forward.

Here is the link. We might want to start a new thread in the Jet section not to get too far off the subject here.
