Browsing through the February issue of Air Forces Monthly I came across a picture of the "new" color bird for VFA-14. It's on page 91 and its sitting on the ramp at the Dubai airshow. It combines the best of the normal CAG bird with the anniversary bird, and, in my opinion is the best VFA-14 scheme yet.
Gone is the black "hood" around the canopy. The red sash is back behind the cockpit with the small squadron top hatters disc with the lettering VFA-14 in black outlined in white.

The tail is outstanding. It's still black (both inside and out) with a smaller red disc with the tophat from the anniversary scheme (about half the width of the tail). This saves rroom for a white NG, white 00 high on the tail and the word "BOLDEST" down the rudder. Inside of the port tail appears the word "OLDEST", with a smaller badge that appears to be red and white. I am not sure of the mirror image since there is only one picture.

What a great looking scheme in 1/72 (hint) and 1/32 combo.

Happy Presidents Day.

It does look great. If you do a google search for 'VFA-14 paint' in images you can see others like this one from different angles. Someone is pretty talented on computer graphics. I think you're right. I think it's the best markings I've seen for the 'oldest and boldest' squadron....

That scheme has already been released in decal form in 1/48 by Afterburner.
