Can someone tell me the color of the CH-47F. It looks brown in some pics and desert tan in others.

Wow, now that looks totally different than other pics I've seen. In this shot it is more of a light OD. :bandhead2:

It's officially "desert sage green", either in semi-gloss FS24201 or flat FS34201. A 2009 study found that was the most efficient color for worldwide operations if cost-constrained to a monocoat paint solution, i.e. what was the most useful color with an advantage over the current CARC aircraft green if the US Army was limited by costs to ONE color?

For all the dirty details, you can look up the study report "Quantitative Camouflage Paint Selection for the CH-47F Helicopter" by Fred W. Bacon, Frank J. Iannarilli Jr., John A. Conant, Torrey Deas, and Malcolm Dinning. Depending on your level of access you may be able to download the report from:

For hobby purposes, I don't know if anybody is making that color.

Boeing appears to have a lot of it, though....:-)

I see 'em every few days flying around here and it is a weird color.
Sometimes it appears like a pukey yellow green (like in the photo above) and sometimes they appear more sand-ish color.

Hand it to the Army for picking some strange colors.

So, how big is the Trumpeter 1/35? This will be my first Helo, a project for my son since he jumps out the back of these things. Want to know what I'm up against.

It really depends on the lighting conditions. One shot in full sunlight, the other one in the shadow of a cloud:

It seems that its the new favorite color of Army Aviation. The LUH is that same color along with new Gentex HGU-56P helmets.

Strange that they are still painting the UH-60's and Apaches in the older CARC green. Wonder why they felt the need to come up w/ a new color just for the Chinooks?

Still think that the Marines have the right idea when it comes to helo camouflage.

Ok, I've got a handle on the paint color but I've run into another problem. My son informs me that I will need a minimum of three M240-B's with butterfly handles. I have searched and I cannot find any kits containing these. The door and ramp gunners are a big part of their air assault missions and this is a big model so I want to get it right. Will I have to build these or am I missing them. Believe me, I don't post for help here unless I've totally exhausted my abilities to find something. I appreciate all help. This project is important to me because my son has asked for this project himself. I can't disappoint my soldier. HOOAH?

I haven't found any M240D (with spade grips) out there in 1/35. However, you can take M240Gs and make them into D's. The Dragon Modern Machine Gun set includes 2 M240Gs, listed as L7A2 (their European designation). Dragon's Modern Marines (OIF) also includes an M240G. Any M1 Abrams also has the M240G as the loader's MG too. I'm sure there are others out there too, but I can't think of any at the moment.

All you have to do is cut off the buttstock and pistol grip, leave off the front bipod, and add a spade grip from either an M60D or an M2 .50 cal. Add a couple pieces of flat styrene for the mount from the spade to the trigger, and you are set.
