How/are you going to add rotor wash to the water?

Product on the top left, the vallejo transparent water effects will be the top layer...

Posted Image

Here's my test piece (although for all intents and purposes, I made waves instead of rotorwash). I poured two layers of still water, and the third layer was the water effects, drybrushed with white...

Posted Image

And I'm planning on doing that as the water gets closer to the first horizontal rib on the side of the SOC-R...

Take care,
Austin

Where'd the first SEAL figure come from? The Caesar Miniatures set?

Yup, the 'world special forces' or whatever the set is named. The head got swapped, and the MP-5K got replaced with a scratched M-4, and the excess plastic between the arms and torso got cut...

That SOC-R is amazing. Add me to the list that would gladly pay for one when you are able to.

Sweet deal.

Progress will be slow, as it isn't a priority for me, but I think I could have something done by the end of summer...
Posted Image

I did get a package from sprue brothers today, which contained more still water, so I was able to pour some more of that and progress slowly slowly slowly on the base...

And then I've been practicing my figure painting on some white metal figures... They are meant for wargaming, but I think they could hold their own fairly well with a static model as long as they are not next to a prieser figure...

Austin,
Holy crap, you've been busy since I last checked this thread. Great work on the boat and the Chinook! You are an inspiration to those of us who love 1/72.

Thanks Ray! Do you have any pictures of hueys doing 'cool diorama-esque' things laying around (preferably vietnam-era)? After this one, I only have one dio left to build on my 'list'...

I've been busy with a couple other things this week (including running in the Ragnar relay from Madison, WI to Chicago, IL this weekend), but I was able to pour the last of the still water and paint up a figure, but I still need to finish the fleshtones...

Hmmm, let me think about that one. I'll start a "Hueys doing cool diorama-esque things" thread for you in a few days. Gonna have to dig deep in the archives for some of the good stuff.

I don't have it handy but there is a pic out there of a Huey hovering about 5-10 feet off the ground with grunts jumping off into the tall grass. It's been in many books on the Vietnam conflict and to me is THE Huey / Nam picture.

Aight. I looked through this book and had some pretty cool ideas regarding vietnam helo dioramas, but more on that in the other thread...

For this dio, I'm just waiting for the transparent water to dry. Then gonna dry brush it white...

Posted Image

Here's the pic I mainly used. I also looked on google, but it was hard to find a top-down pic. It seemed that most of the rotorwash was centered on the rear rotor, however, being as 'cropped' as my dio is, there isn't a huge expansion out...

wow this is brilliant! and in 1/72?! the wave effect looks great. What about adding a few balls of polystyrene around the boat to simulate bubbles/foam? just an idea

Thanks guys!

Zak, I'm not familiar. Are you talking about the polystyrene balloons? I haven't used them before, but I'll look into them. Any idea where to get them?

Also, this will be my last post for the next month.

Take care,
Austin
