My favorite Ukrainian Flanker scheme. Very Vivid! Do you know what colors you are going to use to replicate it? Looks like you are off and running, Can't wait to see more

Thx... yeah, the scheme is just over the top! Not sure about the colors yet, I have stocked up on a variety of blues and grays and will have to do quite a bit of experimenting.

Cheers,

Marcel

Great attentiont to details, Marcel. I have the -UB in the stash with plans to make it a Ukraine splinter too, so I'll be watching this build with interest.

Cheers,

Terry

Here's a rather minor update. I'm really not getting much modelling time lately, and the Trumpeter Flanker does take some time.

Posted Image

Those are the Aires wheel wells and the Zacto compressor faces. Please excuse the poor image quality, I bought a new ultra small camera and the pics are just not that great, I'll be going back to the old clunker for modelling pics. Anyway, the compressor color is burnt iron, the pics of the real thing I have indicate this color, which is different to the more usual silvery color associated with other engines' compressor faces.

As has been pointed out many times before, the Aires wheel wells are a work of art, they are just stunning. All that I needed to do is slap some paint on. I used some different shades of blue and gray to introduce some interest.

And here are some cockpit pics. That is Eduard photo-etch on Aires tub. I have hand-brushed many of the Eduard panels with the color I used on the rest of the cockpit to make it blend in. Next step for the cockpit is adding back raised detail.

My next update will likely feature the beautiful Zacto intakes.

Cheers,

Marcel

If this is going to look like the real one, this should be an excellent model.

Thx Infideon, I'm really aiming at going all out with this cockpit, including amalgamating the Aires and Eduard sets.

Thx Qian, Mareku and Mike... yes, that camo is really hard to resist, getting the colors right will be the challange.

Thx Aggressor Supporter, I'll try my best... the fact that the Trumpeter kit is just really inaccurate does through a curveball into the mix. Good thing Zactoman has remedied the most glaring deficiencies, but some hard to fix issues remain.

Cheers,

Marcel

I decided a few weeks ago to re-engage this build, which meant splashing out some $$$ on a new kit as well as getting another pair of Zacto intakes. More on that in the next post. In the mean time, I have done some more work on the cockpit and wheel wells.

Since it's been a while that I posted, a reminder that the cockpit is an amalgamation of Aires pit and Eduard color PE. I had to scratch build the swiches etc. to re-introduce a 3D look after applying the Eduard PE on the Aires instrument panels.

Here is a wheel well update. I didn't have to do much, Aires did all the work already...

Thanks for looking,
